The Sidekick Black is the new addition to the line of messaging phones. The screen of the Sidekick swivels horizontally to reveal a QWERTY keyboard. The new quad – band sidekick also has a 2 mega pixel camera and provides a better experience of web browsing. The screen resolution is also much better than most phones in this category. The T – Mobile Sidekick Black works on the Hiptop operating system platform and the application platform is J2ME Java.

Layout
The candy bar phone has an extra – large 2.6 inch LCD screen which displays 65, 000 colors. There are two types of layout – full size and standard Sidekick screen size. With the former you can enjoy PC – like atmosphere while surfing the net. The Mini Page function can be used to get a full overview of the web page. The Web pages can also be saved to the Micro SD card. The middle of the phone swivels to reveal a full size QWERTY keyboard with which you can type out messages in a jiffy.
Service Options
The quad – band phone can handle high speed data exchange on T – Mobile’s EDGE network. The high speed mobile data can support multimedia services like video and music clips, full your picture and video messaging, high speed internet access and email on the move.
It is also compatible with T-Mobile’s MyFaves services and allows you to call five of your most called contacts without using any of the minutes. You can also download cool games, instrumental versions of songs and albums by the latest artists.
The T – Mobile’s sidekick Unlimited Service offers unlimited email, AOL Instant Messenger service, Web browsing and text messaging.
Memory
The 64 MB internal memory can store up to 25 ring tones, five slides of multimedia messages and 60 second voice messages. The memory can be expanded by a MicroSD cards and that literally means that you can store much more audio, video and messages etc – you will basically be limited only by the amount of memory you have; just use high memory microSD cards to get the best out of it.
The phonebook can store up to 2000 contacts with multiple fields for phone numbers, email addresses, IM etc. Caller groups and picture ID are also supported by the phone. The bonus shell given with the phone can change the color of the phone from standard black to metallic green.
Bluetooth
The sidekick has Bluetooth connectivity (version 1.2) for enhanced connectivity and profile options include mono and stereo headset, handsfree, dial – up networking, object push, file transfer and basic print. You can also stream music to a pair of Bluetooth headset or other compatible Bluetooth devices with A2DP Bluetooth profile. Apart from this it also has USB 2.0 port for connectivity.
Messaging
The Sidekick Black has built – in Instant Messengers: AOL, MSN and Yahoo. For email the cell works with MS Outlook. Once connected you can send all your important mails from your phone directly using the POP3, IMAL, SSL and APOP server. Text messaging geeks rejoice! The cell gives unlimited text messages with Sidekick Feature Plan. You can also send and receive MMS using the same plan. The Sidekick Data Plan gives Email, Browsing and Web messaging.
Camera
The Sidekick Black is armed with a 2 mega pixel camera producing a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. The photos are of real high quality and in bright vibrant colors. The camera also has a LED flash which comes handy during low light. So even in twilight or evening you can go on clicking pictures without any worries. There is also the Self – portrait mode which clicks your own pictures in different moods.
