Samsung Behold, also known as SGH –T919, is actually a touch screen phone. Though the design and features are similar to that of Omnia, the Samsung cell is actually a shade better. It is a wide screen touch screen phone with music player, a 5 mega pixel camera and support for 3G network. It is an attractive phone with a very easy to use Touch Wiz interface.
Technical Details
- The cell has a 5.0 mega pixel camera with Auto Focus, LED Flash and self timer. The camcorder can play videos in the following formats – MPEG4, 3GP and M-JPEG. The resolution is 176 x 144 pixels.
- The built in memory is 144 MB which can be extended up to 16 GB with the help of Trans Flash card.
- The Behold is ideally suited for data connectivity and allows a speed of 70 kbps in GPRS and up to 120 kbps on EDGE platform.

The candy bar design of the phone is somewhat similar to Omnia. At 3.1 inch the touch screen LCD is quite large. The camera lens on the rear side of the phone is sleek and looks unique in nature. The phone is definitely hardy and easily fit into a ladies’ bag or a teenager’s pocket. The LCD is superb and the graphics looks great. The brightness, the backlighting time and the fonts can all be changed with the help of physical controls. That’s like putting all the controls in your hand. Moreover, now there’s something extra which the teens will rave about. You can even change the intensity of the vibrator!
The Samsung Behold T919 comes with a sensor that dims the LCD as you raise the phone to your ear for a conversation. Moreover the display orientation also gets changed as you rotate the phone. To the bottom of the display you will find four icons which are for the phone dialer, phone book, the Web browser and the main menu. At the time of dialing you will find an on screen back button to amend any mistake while dialing someone.
The unique feature of the Behold is the Touch Wiz interface which makes the cell more personalized. The left side of the display presents a series of ‘widgets’ for applications like clock, music player, photo gallery, Bluetooth, web browser and notepad. You just need to tap the widget with your stylus to get a touch access to the application. If you slide a widget from that bar to the home screen you get a miniature view of the widget wherein you can work also. You can close the application by sliding the widget back to the bar. This actually allows the user to work on an application without actually opening it in the main menu. How great is that?
For entering data you can take advantage of the QWERTY keyboard. However you can also type in messages with alpha numeric keypad. There are dedicated keys for punctuation and the T9 predictive text. There are separate keyboards for numbers and symbols. Mistakes while typing during texting is not even a distinct possibility.
Below the display are the only physical buttons – Talk and End/Power buttons and the back key. On the left spine is the volume control and the combination of charger port/headset jack. The right spine has handset locking key and the camera shutter.

Great Camera
The 5 mega pixel camera is the winning point for Behold. It can shoot pictures in four resolutions excluding two ‘wide’ resolutions. Other options are there such as four quality settings, exposure metering, self timer and auto focus for enhanced experience with the digital camera. There is also the ‘smile shot’ wherein the camera can itself detect when the subject is smiling. It will re-shoot if it detects a ‘frown’ though. Now even sulking guys need to smile too! Isn’t that really a great idea?
The camcorder option is there for motion photography. It has 144 MB internal memory but can be extended till 16 GB with the help of micro - SD cards. The photo quality is very good with sharp pictures and bright colors. Once the photos are taken you can move them to any other device or platform through MMS, USB cable or Bluetooth.
Browser
The Behold offers a full HTML browser. Whenever you are looking for a particular website, Behold will switch over to its WAP version, if it available. The phone does it automatically to ensure faster access. And you can also customize your behold to your heart’s content - there are varied wallpapers and ring tones available. What’s more, the handset comes with demo versions of Bejeweled and Sims 2. The latter is an award winning game and I am sure you will be hooked on to it in no time. If you like the demo versions you can go for the full versions too.
