Product Description
The i580 by Motorola is not made for the casual user, but for the rugged outdoors type. The rubberized exterior and the solid construction are just two characteristics that make this burly phone appealing. This is one phone that screams ‘functionality’ and is amazingly useful in combination with the Nextel Network. Both Motorola and Nextel have added some nice finishing touches to the i580.
Design
The MicroSD slot as well as the headset jack and the charger port are covered with rubber flaps, and the phone extends itself with a stubby antenna – all in all, a fairly stably built phone. One of Nextel’s touted attributes is that its handset comes with military spec certification. And the i580 follows suit as it is protected against the elements, i.e. dust, shock, rain, and vibration. Durability is one characteristic of the i580 that is built into its design. This phone feels very comfortable when you hold it.
The phone comes with a rectangular monochrome external display that offers a resolution of 96 x 32 pixels. If you hit a button on the exterior, the display becomes brighter. The external display has information like battery life, signal strength, and caller ID.
Right above the display screen you will find the camera - digital camera lens, along with a small flash, and a self-portrait mirror. The display is right on with vivid text and eye-popping, colored graphics along with sharp object contours. The phone also supports Nextel’s animated menu design as well.
Right underneath the display come the rather large and flexible navigational controls. The four-way toggle on the i580 also has the function as a shortcut for four user defined phone functions.
Convenience
The i580 comes with the kind of business-friendly features that one would expect on a Nextel phone. The foremost among these is the voluminous, 600-entry Phonebook that allows you to store up to seven numbers for each contact along with an email address and an IP address. You may further organize your contacts into several groups for PTT calls or you could use one of 12 Polyphonic ringtones to pair them.
