Motorola i576 for Nextel is similar in performance to the popular i776; one variation among the two is that the built-in camera was swapped for a slightly more rugged external appearance. The i576 supports Nextel’s Direct Connect Walkie-talkie service, as well as the DirectTalk Service, which allows for off-network phone-to-phone communication Walkie-talkie style. Design
The Motorola i576 is as durable a cell phone as it gets and with its ease-of-use design, functionality is a top feature of this phone. That translates to an above average call quality along with a host of calling features on Nextel’s network. With the ultra-rugged design, the i576 comes as a clam handset.
The phone is set up on the IDEN 800/900 Band/mode and combines with a two-way radio feature as well. Motorola follows suit with the typical functional, industrial design that is characteristic of its handsets with the i576 as well. It would be difficult to confuse a Motorola phone for Nextel with one from another telecom carrier. Motorola phones mean serious business and are catered for performance and hence the i576 design reflects its durability and its usefulness. This phone comes with an extendable antenna and rubber sidings along with an external display. This additional display has a resolution of 128 x 32 pixels and supports up 65,356 hues, while the main color display is 120 x 160 pixels and supports 65,356 colors in TFT.
Measuring in at 4.3 inches in height x 1 inch thick x 1.8 inches wide, it comes across as a bit thick, but nevertheless very portable and convenient. And don’t forget, like many of Motorola’s additions to the Nextel lineup, the i576 comes certified with military specs making it resistant to just about every external harmful element, i.e. shock, solar radiation, temperature, pressure and dust.
Features
Though the features are fairly basic on the i576, it is nonetheless an easy to use phone and touts more than decent performance. This is one cell phone that is built to outperform on all your calls, no matter how long.
The i576 is touted for its 600-contact phone book that can cover your entire network of contacts. This also includes up to six entries for each contact along with an email address. You may organize your contacts in groups. Alternatively, you may also pair contacts using the 22 Polyphonic ringtones available. Standard features on this Moto include text and multimedia messaging, vibrate mode, a voice recorder, a calendar, a speakerphone, call timers, Bluetooth, voice dialing, a notepad, and call forwarding. The Multimedia messaging feature on the i576 allows you to send and receive audio, text, or images to and from email addresses. Alternatively, you also have the option of storing your multimedia on Sprint’s website.
Since the i576 belongs to the iDEN network, it can take advantage of the features on Nextel’s Direct Connect PTT services. This includes International Direct Connect, Direct Talk, and Group Connect. You may also use NextMail that can send voice messages to an email address of your choice or Direct Send, which sends your contact information to other phones that are compatible with the i576. And along with that, Nextel’s 2nd line service option enables you to add a second line to your phone with a second phone number. Very nice indeed.
Bluetooth Wireless technology allows for handsfree communication (short-range) via a compatible Bluetooth headset.
